Container Corporation of America Series

Container Corp started a series in the 50s called "Great Ideas of Western Man," which continued into the 60s and featured artwork by famous artists. I'm not sure what year the ads started or what year they ended. The ads appeared in Newsweek, Time, New Yorker. I don't think they appeared in Life and the other large magazines.

I've pictured one of my favorites here. The artist is Richard Lindner. There are several different ads in this series. I pictured other ads I could easily find on flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/22201361@N00/sets/72157594321912785/

Go there to see Container Corporation of America ads with artwork by Feliks Topolski, Walter Reinsel, Joseph Hirsch, Joseph Low (my mom would like this one because the theme is Shakespeare on Confidence and Courage), Leo Lionni, Jack Gregory, Xanti Schawinsky (I've found Bourjois ads signed Xanti but I'm not sure if it's the same person), Constantion Nivola, Ben Shahn, Joseph Gering, Lemuel B. Line, Abram Games, Horace Paul, Arthur Williams, Richard Kozlow, Noel Martin, Nicholas Ghika and James Rosenquist. I'll try to post others as I find them.
