I'm picturing these now because I'm about to offer them for sale to one of my regulars who collects American Airlines ads. Some of these cartoons would probably do really well on ebay but he's been buying from me for years.
One-hundred sixty-five of these ads are pictured at http://doughnut.net/~susan/AmericanAirlines/
I divided the ads by years into folders. I identify the ads by the last two or three numbers in the link. For instance, picture http://doughnut.net/~susan/AmericanAirlines/AmericanAirlines1951/P1010001.JPG is #1.
The first 6 ads are tiny (measuring approximately 2-1/4 x 2-1/2 inches). Obviously, these are easily missed so I'm going to have to backtrack and see if I missed any others in my stack of New Yorkers. The ads got bigger in 1951 (4-3/4 x 5 inches) and continued to appear until 1957 - the latest one I've found is from 12/07/57.
