Betsy McCall Paperdolls

My mom loves these so I save them for her. I usually send her a batch between her birthday and Xmas.

The batch for 2006 is pictured at flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/22201361@N00/sets/72157594322173470/

I don't know what she does with them. I'm a little afraid that she just wants them so she can tell her sister (my aunt Dee) that she has them! Mom and Dee are just under a year apart so they had to share the dolls when they were growing up. Luckily, I had a little brother who had no interest in paperdolls. He did behead my favorite Princess Leah though!

Betsy, Quite the Consumer. Wow, before today, I didn't realize Betsy advertised something other than McCall's magazines. Almost all her outfits are designed by companies (Kate Greenaway, Aileen Girl, Cinderella) and/or feature the fibers (Dacron, Acrilan, Orlon) that were being advertised like crazy in the 50s magazines.

Catch with Collecting Betsy Paperdolls. So many people cut the pages out of the McCall's during the 50s and 60s. Today, many people cut the pages out for collecting or selling and try to pass the magazine off as being complete so check the actual page. It's something to watch with old Playboy magazines, too, because the Vargas pinup is often missing.
