Many ads appeared in magazines only once. Many ads were similiar and featured artwork by the same artist. For instance, there are several ads for Jantzen by Pete Hawley (some signed only "PH"), for Cole by Ren Wicks, for Dubonnet by Paul Rand.
Other ads with illustrated art appeared in a series: some numbered (Douglas Aviation and Beer Belongs); others unnumbered (Container Corporation of America, Lucky Strike Cigarettes, Johnnie Walker Scotch). Looking at these ads is often helpful because the name of the artist is often printed on the ad.
