Fashion - Men's Fashion - Artist Wilson

Here are three ads for Celanese Fabrics of Synthetic Yarn with artwork by Wilson. Thus far, I do not have a first name for the artist.

The first ad is from 1945 and focuses on linings for suits and topcoats made of Celanese modern synthetic yarn. The ad from 1945 shows two men playing cards.

The second ad from 1946 also mentions Celanese Hawkskin for slacks and Celanese Flannese for shirts.

The final ad from 1946 focuses on a new Celanese fabric woven of Fortisan, "the strongest textile yarn in the world!"

Fashion - Men's Fashion Artist Al Moore

Pinup artist Al Moore did so many ads for Galey and Lord! Here are 6 examples. The nice thing for me is that his signature is so easy to read!

There's a short bio of Moore at the American Art Archives

Alas, no Galey and Lord Men's Fashion ads BUT there are pictures of Moore's work for Ford, Coca Cola, Camay, Whitman's Candy, Botany etc . . .

Volkswagen Ad of the Day, 10/20/06

1959 Volkswagen Ad. Is Volkswagen Contemplating a Change? Text reads:

The answer is yes.

Volkswagen changes continually throughout each year. There have been 80 changes in 1959 alone.

But none of these are changes you merely see. We do not believe in planned obsolescence. We don't change a car for the sake of change. Therefore, the doughty little Volkswagen shape will still be the same. The familiar snub nose will still be intact.

Yet, good as our car is, we are constantly finding ways to make it better. For instance, we have put permanent magnets in the drain plugs. This will keep the oil free 0f tiny metal particles, since the metal adheres to the magnets.

Our shift, we are told, is the best in the world. But we found a way to make it even smoother. We riveted special steel springs into our clutch plate lining.

The Volkswagen has changed completely over the past eleven years, but not its heart or face.

VW owners keep their cars year after year, secure in the knowledge that their used VW is worth almost as much as a new one.

Scooter Ad of the Day, 10-20-06

I should probably change the title to "Scooter Ad of the Month." This ad is actually pretty common - I've seen it two or three different magazines. The ad pictured here appeared in 04/06 in McCall's. It features Debbie Reynolds as "The Singing Nun."
